FULL: St. Regis Falls & Lake Ozonia
Monday, September 14, 2026
St. Regis Falls has been defined by its proximity to water power and surrounding forest land and retains some spectacular historic camps, sportsmen structures, and industrial infrastructure. Emerging from mid 19th century industrial efforts that took advantage of the power of its namesake river, sawmills and paper mills kept this small town humming along through a period of prosperity between the 1860s and 1920s. Buildings sprang up to support these industries, visiting sportsmen, and travelers along the Port Kent-Hopkinton Turnpike. Our first stop at the Red Tavern Sportsmans Club harkens back to the days of hunters and anglers visiting the St. Regis River on the turnpike, many of whom stayed at this well-preserved 1880 hotel. Next, we will learn about how a community energy company has adapted a historic industrial dam into a site generating local hydroelectric power for area residents at Azure Mountain Power. Lastly, gain special access to one of the area’s finest private camps at Fernwood Hall on Lake Ozonia, a former late-19th-century hotel-turned private camp. At Fernwood, we will enjoy lunch and a tour before exploring other nearby sites around Lake Ozonia.
This outing is led by several generous property owners. The tour starts at 10 AM and ends at 3:30 PM.
The fee is $75 for AARCH members and $90 for non-members. Lunch is included.
