FULL: Small Farm Rising Essex
Friday, July 10, 2026
Experience the agricultural revolution happening here in the Adirondacks, which features young farmers using traditional methods and applying sustainable ideas on our region’s generations-old farmland. First, we will experience the unmatched stewardship of Echo Farm. As a fierce preservationist and local food advocate, Dillon Klepetar’s work to revive and honor the legacy of this National Register of Historic Places-listed farmstead has earned an AARCH Preservation Award and grant awards for the restoration of the farm’s milking parlor. At Echo, we will enjoy a farm-fresh lunch from Farmstead Catering, its farm-to-table event catering branch. Later, we will trek to Essex Farm — a unique full-diet, year-round CSA — for a tour with the farm’s co-founder Mark Kimball, whose wife, Kristin, authored both The Dirty Life: On Food, Farming, and Love and Good Husbandry: Growing a Family on a Community Farm recounting their experiences at the farm. Enjoy these two farms and perhaps some other surprises as we take a deep dive into the world of farming in Essex.
This outing is led by farmers from Echo Farm and Essex Farm. The tour starts at 10 AM and ends at 3 PM.
The fee is $70 for AARCH members and $85 for non-members. Lunch from Farmstead Catering is Included
Please note that this outing will feature walking on uneven and unpaved terrain.
