Architectural Sketching Workshop: Essex

Friday, September 12, 2025

Whether you have no experience or are a seasoned artist, this hands-on workshop will connect you to your inner artist and to the places you know and love! Through this workshop, participants will learn how to hone their observations and capture the details, scale, and special features in historic buildings across our region through sketching. In this day-long experience, participants will gain a new perspective on exploring the finer details of the built environment. First, we will gather for a short introduction that will prepare us to put pencil to paper. With expert guidance, we will practice what we learn as we sketch scenes from the charming lakeside community of Essex with its vibrant historic architecture. Attendees will walk out of this workshop with their own finished work and the skills to sketch buildings across the Adirondacks and beyond.

This workshop is led by architect and AARCH board member, JB Clancy, and runs from 9 AM to 4 PM. This event is co-sponsored by our friends from the Town of Essex.

The fee is $80 for AARCH members and $95 for non-members. Cost includes all materials. Lunch from River & Rails Market & Deli is included.

Adirondack Architectural Heritage (AARCH) supports the appreciation, care, and continued use of historic places — from everyday buildings to industrial and landmark sites — so these places are an active part of Adirondack community life for generations to come.
