Lasting Memories on Lake Pleasant

Friday, August 2, 2024

In the early 20th century, Lake Pleasant and the nearby village of Speculator grew as a year-round tourist destination and welcomed a flurry of activity and transformation. Residents and newcomers added their own flair to rustic architecture that celebrated the vibrant scenery of the Central Adirondacks. Lake Pleasant maintains a strong sense of community and passion for their historic buildings. On this outing, experience numerous private historic camps, residences, and a complex of civic buildings along the shores of Lake Pleasant, including Bearhurst, featured in Ann Stillman O’Leary’s Adirondack Style; Northwoods Lodge, which has remained in the same family since its construction in 1939; the cozily adorned camp called Cub’s Cove; Kiamesha, a quaint lakeside cabin; and the high-style home and outbuildings of Derloch.

This tour is led by Hamilton County Historian, Ernie Virgil, Historian Dr. Eliza Jane Darling, and several passionate property owners. The tour begins at 10 AM and ends at 4 PM.

The fee is $60 for AARCH members and $75 for non-members.
