FULL: Rustic Camps of William Coulter: Eagle Island & Moss Ledge
Saturday, August 8, 2026
William Lincoln Coulter was the first major professionally trained resident architect in the Adirondacks. Well known for designing camps sited on shorelines overlooking lakes and the mountains beyond, Coulter’s work features huge sweeping porches extending from main buildings where residents could take full advantage of signature Adirondack views. These defining features are on full display at two stunning historic complexes on Upper Saranac Lake. On this outing, we will tour Eagle Island, a National Historic Landmark and one of the finest examples of Adirondack Great Camp architecture in the region. We will also gain special access to Moss Ledge, a spectacularly restored private camp with commanding views of the lake.
This outing is led by Eagle Island’s expert staff, the dedicated owners of Moss Ledge, and AARCH Educational Programs Director Nolan Cool. The tour begins at 10 AM and ends at 2:30 PM.
The fee is $80 for AARCH members and $95 for non-members.
Please note that this tour involves a short boat ride and one mile of walking on dirt paths and uneven terrain.
