Adirondack History & Historic Preservation by Lee Manchester

From 2001 through 2006, reporter Lee Manchester wrote extensively on Adirondack history and historic preservation issues for the Lake Placid News. Following the death in 2003 of renowned public historian Mary MacKenzie, Lee began editing her collected historic works, published as The Plains of Abraham: A History of North Elba and Lake Placid (Utica, N.Y.: Nicholas K. Burns Publishing, 2007).

In 2004, Adirondack Architectural Heritage gave Lee its special recognition award for raising public awareness of regional historic preservation issues. Lee’s stories, many of which appear below, can also be found in two books: Adventures in the New Wilderness, and Adirondack Heritage: Travels Through Time in New York’s North Country. Today, Lee is the media relations director for Wagner College on Staten Island, NY.
