Summer Celebration at Eagle Nest
Preservation in Blue Mountain Lake
August 10, 2025 @ 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
SOLD OUT
Among the Adirondacks’ many communities, Blue Mountain Lake shines as one with a strong legacy of historic preservation. The community’s pride in its roots is evident in its stewardship of the built environment. Throughout the hamlet, businesses, organizations, and individuals continue to carefully preserve their historic buildings, thus celebrating their community’s rich history in the heart of the Adirondacks.
For this year’s Summer Celebration, we are gathering at Eagle Nest, a stunning property on the shore of Eagle Lake. Constructed in the Adirondack Great Camp tradition for Walter and Kathrin Hochschild, the site is a powerful example of conscientious and thoughtful stewardship in Blue Mountain Lake. The Hochschilds, particularly artist Kathrin, worked closely with Adirondack architect William G. Distin to reflect the site’s stunning landscape in the camp’s design. Constructed in 1937 and 1938, this late example of the Adirondack Rustic style features local spruce logs throughout the interior that seem to grow right out the floor. Birch panels sourced from Saranac Lake wrap around the dining room, lending to its rustic charm. Kathrin even ensured that the layout of the stone fireplaces was to her liking, with convenient hooks and cubby holes.
Join us for an afternoon of conviviality with fellow AARCH friends and the exclusive opportunity to tour this stunning property. We will also highlight public-facing preservation projects in Blue Mountain Lake, past and present, that have made a substantial impact in the health and vitality of the hamlet. Refreshments will be provided by Feast & Festivities and our generous hosts, Kimberly and Steven Pope.
