Preserving Historic Plaster Workshop

June 7 @ 9:00 am June 8 @ 4:00 pm

Have you ever been curious about how to identify and repair historic plaster work in your home, workspace, or on a project? Join AARCH for this rare opportunity to learn from master plasterer Richard Barrow as well as contribute to the ongoing restoration of the iconic Graves Mansion in Au Sable Forks. Gain hands-on experience laying lath, mixing lime plaster, exploring application methods, and even trying your hand at some decorative plaster work. Come coat some lath and spend two days learning the foundations of historic plaster repair from a master with over 35 years of experience and who has worked on historic preservation landmarks around the world including England’s Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace, the United States Capitol, and the White House in Washington D.C.

This workshop is led by historic plaster expert and founder of Global Heritage Group, Richard Barrow with supplies and assistance from Jon Owens and Kari Eshleman of Lancaster Lime Works. This two-day workshop runs from 9 AM to 4 PM for both days.

The fee is $150 for AARCH members and $170 for non-members. This workshop requires pre-registration and is first come, first served. Lunch is provided for both days.

This project has been funded in part by a grant from the Historic Preservation Education Foundation and generous sponsors Beardsley Architects + Engineers, Landmark Consulting, and SD Atelier Architects. American Institute of Architects (AIA) credits are available for this program
