Birding Expedition at Camp Santanoni

The Santanoni Preserve features a rich array of avian life along its wooded paths! Join AARCH and birding expert Joan Collins in our first-ever birding excursion along the road to Camp Santanoni’s historic farm complex. Species sought out on this outing will include Ruffed Grouse, Broad-winged Hawk, most of our breeding woodpecker species, Least Flycatcher; Eastern Phoebe; Blue-headed and Red-eyed Vireos; Golden-crowned Kinglet; Brown Creeper; Winter Wren; Hermit Thrush; White-throated Sparrow; many warbler species including: Ovenbird, Northern Waterthrush, Black-and-white Warbler, Nashville Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, American Redstart, Northern Parula, Magnolia Warbler, Blackburnian Warbler, Chestnut-sided Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Pine Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler, and possibly Canada Warbler; Scarlet Tanager, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and Indigo Bunting, and likely many more!

This guided adventure is led by Joan Collins, President of Adirondack Avian Expeditions & Workshops, LLC, who leads birding trips year-round, is a New York State licensed guide, an Adirondack 46er, and has visited every Adirondack fire tower. She is a past president of the New York State Ornithological Association and editor of New York Birders. She served for many years as a board of directors member of the Audubon Council of New York State and is a current Board of Director’s member of Northern New York Audubon. Joan writes the Birdwatch column for the Adirondack Explorer and has published several journal, magazine, and newspaper articles on wildlife and conservation topics in various publications. Please note that this outing includes 2 miles of walking on a dirt road with the option to continue birding after lunch.

There is a suggested donation of $45. This workshop requires pre-registration and is first come, first served.
