This series of webinars is FREE and open to the public via Zoom thanks to funding from the Adirondack Foundation’s Generous Acts Grant Program.
Preserving Historic Barns Webinar
Wednesday, October 26, 2022
Historic barns embody the labor, charm, and wisdom associated with New York’s rich agricultural past. These storied structures continue to serve as vital farm infrastructure in our present and future.
In this webinar, AARCH and a panel of experts explore identifying historic barn types and using the revitalized New York State Historic Barns Tax Credit program. Preservationists Tom Visser, Olivia Brazee, and Eric Teed will discuss the importance of retaining our historic barn stock, accessing financial assistance for barn rehabilitation, and supporting the appreciation and stewardship of our region’s most vibrant agricultural architecture.
Funding Preservation Projects: Historic Tax Credits
Wednesday, November 16, 2022
Historic preservation is an effective tool for a wide range of shared goals, including small business incubation, affordable housing, sustainable development, neighborhood stabilization, community revitalization, job creation, promotion of the arts and culture, small-town renewal, heritage tourism, and economic development. Preservation and reuse of historic buildings reduce resource and material consumption, put less waste in landfills, and consume less energy than demolishing buildings and constructing new ones. In addition, preservation connects communities to their history and fosters community pride.
In this webinar, a panel of experts hosted this informational webinar exploring New York State and federal historic tax credits and highlighting how communities in the Adirondack region can use these important financial incentives to create positive and sustainable economic development. Five distinct speakers offered their expertise, experience, case studies, and strategies for getting the most out of these programs.
Funding Preservation Projects: Grants
Wednesday, December 7, 2022
4:00 – 6:00 PM
The final webinar in our three-part series, Historic Preservation as Economic Development, focused on historic preservation grant funds for project planning, and capital restoration and rehabilitation. Investing in historic buildings promotes successful economic development, environmental protection, and sustainable community investment.
Together with a panel of experts, we proudly hosted this informational webinar to share the ins and outs of securing applicable preservation grants. Attendees were able to learn about various public and private grant programs that support architectural services as well as brick and mortar costs.
